From December 6 to 8, 2013, China's Special Envoy on the Middle East issue Wu Sike attended the ninth Manama Dialogue in Manama, capital of Bahrain and delivered a keynote speech on the Syrian issue.
Wu Sike said that, Syria is still faced with severe situation currently. The development of the situation over the past year has once again proved that military means get nowhere and political settlement is the only practical way to solve the issue. At present, the Syrian issue is being promoted on the parallel ways of the destruction of chemical weapons and the political process. The international community should seize the opportunities to urge relevant parties of Syria to participate in the second Geneva Meeting in a positive and constructive manner as well as truly open and advance the political transitional process of Syria.
Wu Sike stressed that on the Syrian issue, China has always been upholding objective and impartial position, resting on principles, taking responsibilities and promoting peace. Meanwhile, China has resolutely safeguarded the purposes and principles of the UN Charter as well as basic principles of international relationships, and explicitly spoken out a resounding voice of anti-war and promoting peace during the crisis of Syria's chemical weapons.
He said, China has been communicating with the Syrian government, the opposition and all other relevant parties for actively promoting peace and talks as well as political solutions of the Syrian issue.
Wu Sike indicated that, China pays high attention to the humanitarian situation in Syria and it has and will continue to offer humanitarian aid to the Syrian people.
Chinese Ambassador to Bahrain Li Chen accompanied Wu Sike at relevant activities of the meeting.
