Li Zhaoxing Holds Phone Conversations Respectively with Habib Ben Yahia, Foreign Minister of Tunisia, the Rotating Presidency of the Arab League (AL), and Amr Mahmoud Moussa, AL Secretary-General

On the evening of May 25, 2004, Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing held phone conversations respectively with Habib Ben Yahia, Foreign Minister of Tunisia, the rotating presidency of the Arab League (AL), and Amr Mahmoud Moussa, AL Secretary-General and exchanged views with them mainly on the situation in Iraq and the new draft resolution on the Iraqi issue being discussed in the United Nations (UN) Security Council. Both sides believed that the military occupation of Iraq should be terminated as soon as possible, that Iraq's sovereignty should be resumed in an all-round way, and that a new Iraqi government with broad representation should be established at an early date through fair and democratic election. They also held that the UN should play an important role in the process. Li Zhaoxing also noted that the UN Security Council should carefully heed and respect the concerns and opinions of the Arab countries during related discussions.
