On August 1, 2016, President Omar Hassan Ahmad al-Bashir of Sudan met at the Presidential Palace with Special Representative of the Chinese Government on African Affairs Zhong Jianhua, who was in Khartoum to chair the third High-level Meeting of the Joint Monitoring and Evaluation Commission (JMEC) Partners Group for South Sudan. H.E. Li Lianhe, Chinese Ambassador to Sudan, State Minister at the Presidency Taha Osman al-Hussein of Sudan, State Minister at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Obeid Allah Mohamed Obeid Allah of Sudan and others attended the meeting.
Zhong Jianhua conveyed President Xi Jinping's warm greetings to President Omar Hassan Ahmad al-Bashir, and expressed that China and Sudan enjoy profound traditional friendship, solid political mutual trust, and fruitful cooperation in various fields. China is grateful for Sudan's strong support and assistance to its withdrawal of personnel from South Sudan not long ago, and believes that Sudan will continuously provide necessary security assurance to Chinese citizens in the country. China also believes that the constant and in-depth development of China-Sudan strategic partnership will be achieved under the joint efforts of both sides.
Omar Hassan Ahmad al-Bashir asked Zhong Jianhua to convey his warm regards to President Xi Jinping, and noted that Sudan attaches high importance to developing relations with China. At present, Assistant to the President Awad Ahmed Al-Jaz of Sudan is leading several ministers for a visit in China. Sudan is willing to jointly promote bilateral relations to constantly move forward with China, and ensure the safety of Chinese citizens in Sudan.
Both sides also exchanged views on the situation in South Sudan.
