On August 31, 2016, President Mahmoud Abbas of Palestine met with China's Special Envoy on the Middle East Issue Gong Xiaosheng at the Presidential Office in Ramallah. Both sides exchanged views on regional hotspot issues including the Palestine-Israel situation. H.E. Chen Xingzhong, Director of Chinese Office in Palestine attended the meeting.

During the visit, Special Envoy Gong Xiaosheng also met with Foreign Relations Commissioner General Nabeel Shaath of Fatah, Foreign Minister Riad Malki of Palestine and other officials.
