Wang Yi Meets with Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif of Iran

On June 8, 2017 local time, Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif of Iran in Astana.

Wang Yi extended condolences to Mohammad Javad Zarif over the recent terrorist attacks in Teheran, the capital of Iran. He expressed that China strongly condemns the terrorist attacks. The Chinese side firmly opposes terrorism of all forms and advocates that the international community should earnestly enhance anti-terrorism cooperation.

Wang Yi expressed that China-Iran relations enjoy favorable development prospects. China appreciates Iran for supporting and actively participating in the "Belt and Road" construction quite early. Bilateral cooperation in the joint construction of the "Belt and Road" not only benefits respective developments of the two countries, but also is conducive to promoting regional peace, stability and prosperity.

Mohammad Javad Zarif thanks China for its condolences and supports provided to the Iranian government and people over the terrorist attacks in Teheran. Mohammad Javad Zarif expressed that the Iranian side is gratified with the current development of Iran-China relations, and stands ready to intensify bilateral high-level exchanges and push forward bilateral economic and trade cooperation.

Both sides exchanged views on the current situation in the Gulf region. Wang Yi said that maintaining the peace and stability in the Gulf region conforms to the common interests of regional countries and the international community. China advocates that relevant countries should properly handle differences among them.
