Updated: August 03, 2017 14:28

On August 3, 2017, Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu of Turkey jointly met the press in Beijing after co-chairing China-Turkey Foreign Ministers' Consultation.

Wang Yi said that the joint construction of the "Belt and Road" best conforms to the common interests of China and Turkey. Highly appreciating President Recep Tayyip Erdogan for attending the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation in China, the Chinese side thanks Turkey for its contributions to the success of the forum.

Wang Yi expressed that Turkey has always been an important pivot for the "Belt and Road", no matter in the past or at present, on land or in ocean. I once visited two neighboring exhibition halls of the Topkapı Palace, and one of them was exhibiting knives and swords various countries had used over the past hundreds of years, reflecting all kinds of wars broke out on the land of Turkey, while the other was exhibiting Chinese porcelains transported to the country along the Silk Road in those years, including exquisite celadon and peculiar blue and white porcelain of Yuan Dynasty. The two exhibition halls formed a sharp contrast, not just reflecting Turkey's unique and significant role in the Silk Road, but also vividly introducing ancient Silk Road's goal of peace, cooperation and friendliness. China is willing to, together with Turkey, carry forward the spirit of ancient Silk Road and inject new times connotation into it, and tap new cooperation potentials and expand new cooperation spaces in the joint advancement of the "Belt and Road", in a bid to achieve mutual benefit, win-win results and common development of the two countries.
