Wang Yi: Promote China-Turkey Strategic Cooperative Relations to Develop at a Higher Level

On August 3, 2017, Foreign Minister Wang Yi jointly met the press with Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu of Turkey after holding the China-Turkey Foreign Ministers' Consultation.

Wang Yi expressed that Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu and I held the second meeting of the China-Turkey Foreign Ministers' Consultation Mechanism. Both sides agreed that the two countries should take the consensus between the two heads of state as guidance to push forward the development of China-Turkey strategic cooperative relations. In the past two years, President Xi Jinping held four meetings with President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, reaching important consensus on the healthy development of China-Turkey relations and mapping out strategic plans for the future of relations between the two countries. Both sides should comprehensively implement consensus between the two heads of state to promote cooperation in various fields for more achievements. China appreciates Turkey for reiterating that the country will firmly adhere to the one-China policy, and both sides should continuously share mutual supports on issues concerning each other's core interests.

Both sides agreed that the two countries should take the win-win cooperation as a principle to deepen bilateral mutually beneficial cooperation. Both China and Turkey are important emerging market countries, and enjoy sound cooperative foundation and strong complementarities. Under the new situation, both sides should deeply integrate the"Belt and Road" initiative with the "Middle Corridor" project, innovate cooperation thoughts, speed up the settlement of concrete issues in bilateral cooperation and practically advance cooperation in major strategic projects.

The two countries agreed that deepening anti-terrorism cooperation and safeguarding common security fully conform to the fundamental interests of both countries, and are the most important contents of deepening bilateral strategic mutual trust. China firmly supports Turkey's efforts to safeguard national sovereignty, security and stability. Mr. Foreign Minister stressed that China's security is the security of Turkey. Turkey will not allow any issues occurring in Turkey's territory that undermine China's sovereignty, territorial integrity and security. The Turkish side has put the "East Turkistan Islamic Movement" terrorist force into the list of terrorism affirmed by Turkey, and China appreciates the above stances adopted by the Turkish side.

The two sides agreed to the adherence to political settlement of hotspot issues and safeguard regional peace and stability. When facing with continuous turbulence situation in West Asia and North Africa, the international community should always support the general direction including political and diplomatic settlement, seek practical solutions and giving consideration to all parties' concerns. All parties need to act on the norms of international relations, fulfill their respective international obligations and play active roles in achieving regional peace and stability.

Mevlut Cavusoglu said that Turkey attaches high importance to relations with China, and will firmly and powerfully adhere to the one-China policy. Turkey regards China's security as its own security, and will definitely not allow any activities to undermine China's sovereignty and security in its territory. Turkey appreciates China for leading and boosting co-construction of the "Belt and Road", and is willing to, together with the Chinese side, continuously strengthen security cooperation, deepen practical cooperation in economy, trade and other fields, and expand communication and cooperation in people-to-people and cultural exchanges including tourism, education, culture.
