On August 3, Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu of Turkey jointly met the press in Beijing after co-chairing the China-Turkey Foreign Ministers’ Consultation.
When answering questions over China’s role in alleviating the recent tension between Palestine and Israel, Wang Yi expressed that recently, Palestine-Israel conflict has been tensed and escalated again due to al-Aqsa mosque incident. As the rotating presidency of the UN Security Council in July, China actively shouldered its due responsibility, promptly taking a series of mediating measures including convening an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council. China, together with the international community, has effectively eased the conflict and prevented it from being further intensified.
Wang Yi pointed out that the Palestinian issue is the root cause of the turmoil in the Middle East. The Middle East will never embrace peace without addressing this issue. However, there is only but one way to address the issue, which is peace talk. During President Mahmoud Abbas’s visit to China last month, President Xi Jinping put forward four propositions on the settlement of the Palestinian issue under the new situation, wining widespread acclaim from the international community. President Xi Jinping also proposed such new measures as holding a seminar for the peace-loving people in Palestine and Israel and launching China-Palestine-Israel trilateral dialogue mechanism. At present, China is actively coordinate to implement the important propositions put forward by President Xi Jinping. Turkey boasts unique influence and effect on the Palestinian issue. China stands ready to work together with Turkey and other countries to make unremitting efforts for the fundamental settlement of the Palestine-Israel conflict.
