Wang Yi Meets with Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif of Iran

On September 21, 2017 local time, Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif of Iran on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York.

Wang Yi said that as China and Iran are comprehensive strategic partners, China is willing to take assumption office of the new Iranian government as an opportunity to deepen practical cooperation in various fields with Iran. Iran is an important country in the ancient Silk Road, and China appreciates its active response to the "Belt and Road" initiative, and stands ready to promote bilateral cooperation to continuously achieve new outcomes under this framework.

Mohammad Javad Zarif expressed that Iran attaches high importance to its relations with China, devotes itself to deepening cooperation with China, and welcomes China to further expand investment in Iran. Iran firmly supports the "Belt and Road" initiative, specially establishes inter-ministerial coordination mechanism towards China's "Belt and Road" cooperation, and hopes conduct integration with the Chinese side as soon as possible. Iran is ready to give play to its geographical location advantage, and play an important role in the "Belt and Road" construction.

In regard to the comprehensive agreement on Iranian nuclear issue, Wang Yi expressed that the comprehensive agreement is a serious international agreement, and the implementation at present is faced with some challenges. It is believed that Iran has enough political intelligence to properly solve complicated contradiction and lead the situation to develop along a positive direction. China is willing to, together with all sides, advance the implementation of the agreement and push forward the project of Arak heavy water reactor for greater progress. Mohammad Javad Zarif said that Iran appreciates China's stance on the comprehensive agreement, and hopes China to play its due role in the effective implementation of the agreement.
