On April 29, 2018 local time, President Xi Jinping's Special Envoy, Member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and Director of the Office of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the CPC Central Committee Yang Jiechi met with Emir Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah of Kuwait in Kuwait City.

Yang Jiechi conveyed President Xi Jinping's sincere greetings and best wishes to Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, and expressed that China and Kuwait are good friends and good partners who have depended on and always supported each other since the establishment of bilateral diplomatic relations 47 years ago. China has always viewed and developed its relations with Kuwait from a strategic height and long-term perspective, and is ready to make joint efforts with Kuwait to further consolidate political mutual trust, enhance high-level exchanges, deepen practical cooperation, achieve advantage complementarities, and promote common development, so as to constantly elevate bilateral relations to new stages.

Yang Jiechi pointed out that Kuwait was among the first countries to sign the cooperation documents on the "Belt and Road" with China. China regards Kuwait as an important cooperative partner in the Middle East and the Gulf region in the joint construction of the "Belt and Road". The "Belt and Road" initiative and the Kuwait Vision 2035 highly match each other. The Chinese side stands ready to, together with Kuwait, strengthen the integration of development strategies, and jointly push forward the development projects of Silk City and the Five Islands of Kuwait.

Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah asked Yang Jiechi to convey his warm greetings and best wishes to President Xi Jinping, and expressed that Kuwait-China relations have always enjoyed sound development since the establishment of bilateral diplomatic relations. Regarding China as a trustworthy strategic cooperative partner, Kuwait looks forward to establishing the long-term and stable partnership with China. The country stands ready to, together with China, deepen and expand cooperation in various fields, actively participate in the "Belt and Road" construction, and effectively integrate the development projects of Silk City and the Five Islands with the "Belt and Road" initiative, so as to create new highlights of Kuwait-China friendly cooperation in the new period. Kuwait attaches high importance to China's international status and role, and stands ready to enhance coordination and cooperation with China on major international issues, in a bid to jointly safeguard international and regional peace and stability.

On the same day, Yang Jiechi also met with First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Nasser Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sabah Al-Khalid Al-Hamad Al-Sabah of Kuwait.
