On May 21, 2018 local time, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Foreign Minister Adel bin Ahmed Al-Jubeir of Saudi Arabia on the sidelines of the G20 Foreign Ministers' Meeting in Buenos Aires.

Wang Yi expressed that China and Saudi Arabia are comprehensive strategic partners, and have enjoyed mutual understanding, mutual support and mutual trust. The two heads of state have established sound contacts and friendship, which plays an important leading role in the development of China-Saudi Arabia relations. China has always regarded Saudi Arabia as a priority in its diplomacy towards the Middle East and a significant cooperation partner in the joint building of the "Belt and Road". It is hoped that both sides will launch and give play to the role of China-Saudi Arabia High-level Joint Committee as soon as possible, accelerate the alignment of the "Belt and Road" initiative and the "Vision 2030" of Saudi Arabia, and promote cooperation in such fields as production capacity, investment, energy, economy and trade, as well as infrastructure. China is willing to make concerted efforts with Saudi Arabia to well host the Ministerial Meeting of the China-Arab States Cooperation Forum (CASCF) to be held this July, and further promote the unity and cooperation between China and the Arab world. It is hoped that Saudi Arabia will play a positive role in this regard. China is willing to maintain communication with Saudi Arabia on the Middle East issue, and will always stand with the Arab countries, and safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of the Arab countries and the peace and stability in the Middle East.

Adel bin Ahmed Al-Jubeir expressed that China is the most important strategic partner of Saudi Arabia. Both sides enjoy mutual trust, frequent high-level exchanges, and fruitful results from exchanges and cooperation in various fields. Saudi Arabia stands ready to actively participate in the "Belt and Road" cooperation. It is hoped that both sides will further implement the consensus of the two heads of state and the signed agreements, and enhance practical cooperation in such fields as ports and energy under the "Belt and Road" framework. More Chinese enterprises are welcome to carry out investment and cooperation in Saudi Arabia. At present, the Middle East is facing many challenges. Saudi Arabia and China share same or similar views and concepts on many issues. Saudi Arabia appreciates China for upholding fairness and justice in the Middle East and actively promoting peace talks. The Saudi Arabian side commends China's positive efforts and important role in pushing the peace process of the Middle East, and hopes to further strengthen communication and coordination with China. Saudi Arabia is willing to cooperate with China to well host the CASCF Ministerial Meeting, so as to play a positive role in promoting the further enhancement of bilateral relations.
