Wang Yi: Abiding by International Agreements Is a Basic Common Sense of International Law
Updated: June 01, 2018 09:23

On June 1, 2018 local time, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi answered questions about the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) on the Iranian nuclear issue when jointly meeting the press with the European Union (EU) High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini in Brussels.

Wang Yi expressed that abiding by international agreements is a basic common sense of international law, and the major countries should particularly play an exemplary role in this regard, not the other way around. The Chinese side will, together with the EU, continue to firmly safeguard the seriousness and authority of the JCPOA on the Iranian nuclear issue.

At the same time, China believes that no agreement can be perfect and that only an agreement cannot solve all problems. The correct choice is that all sides discuss new changes in the development of the situation and new issues of common concern through equal consultation on the premise of continuing to safeguard and implement the JCPOA on the Iranian nuclear issue. This is a realistic way to solve the problem. China hopes that all sides can hold discussions in this regard and reach consensus.
