Wang Yi Holds Telephone Talks with Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif of Iran at Request

On August 17, 2018, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi held telephone talks with Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif of Iran at request.

Wang Yi expressed that the Chinese side values China-Iran relations, and is willing to continue advancing bilateral mutually beneficial cooperation in line with the development of the situation. As an important outcome of multilateralism, the Joint Commission of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) on the Iranian nuclear issue conforms to the common interests of the international community. And the adherence to the JCPOA accords with the fundamental interests of Iran. We have publicly manifested the objection to the wrong practices of adopting unilateral sanctions and “long-arm jurisdiction” in international relations.

Mohammad Javad Zarif briefed the Chinese side on the latest situation related to the Iranian nuclear issue, and stressed that the Iranian side attaches importance to the Chinese side’s constructive role in safeguarding the JCPOA on the Iranian nuclear issue. The Iranian side stands ready to strengthen coordination with various relevant parties including the Chinese side to properly deal with the current new situation facing the Iranian nuclear issue.
