On September 24, 2018 local time, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi attended the Foreign Ministers' Meeting on the Iranian Nuclear Issue at the headquarters of the United Nations (UN) General Assembly in New York. The meeting was chaired by High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini. Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif of Iran, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov of Russia, Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian of France, Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs Jeremy Hunt of the United Kingdom, Political Director of the Federal Foreign Office Antje Leendertse of Germany and others attended the meeting.

Wang Yi expressed that the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) on the Iranian nuclear issue is a multilateral agreement verified and approved by the UN Security Council. Against the current situation, all parties should uphold the principles, safeguard the effectiveness of the JCPOA, and maintain normal economic and trade cooperation with Iran through multilateral and bilateral diplomatic efforts, in a bid to promote regional peace and stability. The Chinese side hopes that the Iranian side will continue implementing the JCPOA, and other parties will also continue fulfilling their promises. The Chinese side supports the settlement of any disputes and differences through dialogue and consultation, and supports the discussion on building a dialogue platform featuring equality and inclusiveness for other issues of all parties' concerns under the premise of maintaining the JCPOA.

Wang Yi noted that the Foreign Ministers' Meeting on the Iranian Nuclear Issue was conducted just in time. All parties have highly consistent stances, reached new consensus, and will publish the Foreign Ministers' announcement on four main points. The first is to express deep regret for the United States' withdrawal from the JCPOA on the Iranian nuclear issue; the second is to recognize that Iran has fulfilled its commitment in nuclear field set by the JCPOA; the third is to reiterate the continuous maintenance and implementation of the JCPOA on the Iranian nuclear issue; the fourth is to commit to properly solving the difficulties of maintaining the normal economic and trade cooperation with Iran.

Wang Yi stressed that the efforts made by us in diplomacy is not only for safeguarding a multilateral agreement, but also maintaining the authority of the UN and the UN Security Council, international non-proliferation regime, peace and stability in the Middle East, multilateralism and international rules. It is believed that our efforts will surely receive extensive support from the international community.

Wang Yi stressed that the Chinese side has a clear stance on the Iranian nuclear issue and will support any action that is conducive to safeguarding the JCPOA. At the same time, we will also maintain China's legitimate and lawful rights and interests with all-out efforts.
