On December 28, 2018, Assistant Foreign Minister Chen Xiaodong met with outgoing Mauritanian Ambassador to China Bal Mohamed El Habib.

Speaking positively of the contributions made by Bal Mohamed El Habib to promoting the development of China-Mauritania relations during his term of office, Chen Xiaodong hoped that Bal Mohamed El Habib will continue caring for and supporting the development of China-Mauritania relations. Bal Mohamed El Habib appreciated the Chinese side's strong support for his fulfillment of duties during his tenure, and expressed that he will commit to promoting the Mauritania-China friendship as always.
