Wang Yi Meets with Foreign Minister Ibrahim bin Abdulaziz Al-Assaf of Saudi Arabia

On September 25, 2019 local time, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Foreign Minister Ibrahim bin Abdulaziz Al-Assaf of Saudi Arabia on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

Wang Yi said, China and Saudi Arabia are comprehensive strategic partners. At present, the two sides are actively implementing the important consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries. Both sides have continuously advanced practical cooperation in various fields, and enjoyed closer communication and coordination in international and regional affairs. The Chinese side condemns the recent attacks on Saudi oil facilities and supports the Saudi Arabian side's efforts to safeguard national sovereignty, security and stability. The Chinese side is willing to make joint efforts with the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries to reach an agreement on China-GCC free trade zone through negotiation at an early date, and safeguard free trade and the multilateral trading system and promote the building of an open world economy with practical actions.

Briefing on the preventive counter-terrorism and deradicalization measures taken by China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, Wang Yi said, the Chinese side is willing to work with the Saudi Arabian side to continue understanding and supporting each other on issues concerning respective core interests and major concerns.

Ibrahim bin Abdulaziz Al-Assaf said, the frequent exchanges between the two heads of state have greatly enhanced mutual trust between the two countries and promoted cooperation in politics, investment, economy, trade and other fields to a new level. Saudi Arabia has always been committed to advancing its comprehensive strategic partnership with China, and looks forward to accelerating the alignment of the Saudi Vision 2030 with the Chinese side's Belt and Road Initiative. The Saudi Arabian side firmly adheres to the One China policy, opposes the groundless accusations against China on Xinjiang-related issues, firmly supports the legitimate position and measures taken by the Chinese side, and stands ready to strengthen exchanges and cooperation with the Chinese side on preventive counter-terrorism and deradicalization. The Saudi Arabian side is willing to work with the Chinese side to strive to complete the negotiation on an agreement on GCC-China free trade zone as soon as possible.
