On November 25, 2019, Assistant Foreign Minister Chen Xiaodong attended upon invitation the national day reception held by the Mauritanian Embassy in China and addressed the function.

In his speech, Chen Xiaodong congratulated Mauritania on its 59th anniversary of the national day and said that China and Mauritania have enjoyed a traditional friendship. Since the establishment of diplomatic relations 54 years ago, the friendship between China and Mauritania has stood the test of international vicissitudes. China and Mauritania are good friends and partners with mutual trust and sincere cooperation. After the election of Mauritania's new President Mohamed Ould Ghazouani, President Xi Jinping sent a congratulatory message and appointed a special envoy to attend the inauguration of the new president. The Chinese side is willing to work with the Mauritanian side to further consolidate political mutual trust, deepen practical cooperation in various fields, and write a glorious new chapter of China-Mauritania and China-Africa friendly cooperation.

Chen Xiaodong also exchanged views with Mauritanian Ambassador to China Abdellahi El Vilaly on bilateral relations and other topics.
