From October 30 to 31, 2024, Special Envoy Zhai Jun of the Chinese Government on the Middle East Issue attended the first high-level meeting of the Global Alliance for the Implementation of the Two-State Solution in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Representatives from 94 countries, regions and international organizations attended the meeting.
All the participating parties expressed that the Palestinian question is the core of the Middle East issue, and that the international community should make joint efforts to promote the realization of an early ceasefire in Gaza and support the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East in fulfilling its duties to alleviate the humanitarian disaster in Gaza. The two-State solution is the basis for a political resolution of the Palestinian question and for achieving comprehensive, lasting peace and security in the Middle East. The Global Alliance for the Implementation of the Two-State Solution is committed to formulating practical measures and a timetable to advance the peace process.
Zhai Jun said that the current round of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict has been protracted for over a year, causing an unprecedented humanitarian crisis. Facts have proved once again that the two-State solution is the only realistic way out to end the cyclical Palestinian-Israeli conflict, promote a political solution to the Palestinian question and achieve lasting peace in the Middle East. China will continue to work with the international community to make every effort to cool down the situation as soon as possible, bring the Palestinian question back on the right track of the two-State solution, and make its due contribution to an early, comprehensive, just and lasting solution to the Palestinian question.
During the meeting, Special Envoy Zhai Jun also met with Special Representative of the Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs for the Middle East settlement Vladimir Safronkov and EU Special Representative for the Middle East Peace Process Sven Koopmans.
