
From February 16 to 17, 2025, Special Envoy Zhai Jun of the Chinese Government on the Middle East Issue attended the 8th Indian Ocean Conference in Oman. The conference was organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Oman in collaboration with the India Foundation, with over 400 representatives from more than 60 countries and international and regional organizations in attendance.
Special Envoy Zhai Jun said in his speech that China is a country close to the Indian Ocean and has been closely connected with the Indian Ocean since ancient times, with a long history of traditional friendship. The Indian Ocean, as an important junction of continents and oceans across the globe, serves as a crucial hub for global economic exchanges and trade flows, making it one of the regions with the greatest development potential. China is ready to deepen cooperation with the Indian Ocean region, build a maritime community with a shared future between China and Indian Ocean countries, and achieve high-quality and sustainable development in the Indian Ocean region. China is ready to work with all parties to uphold the spirit of openness and inclusiveness, enhance political mutual trust, deepen practical cooperation, and build the Indian Ocean into an ocean of peace, security, win-win cooperation, and exchange and mutual learning, making it an ocean of peace, friendship, cooperation and prosperity.
Focusing on the theme "Voyage to New Horizons of Maritime Partnership", the participants had extensive exchanges and discussions on topics such as increasing the voice of the Global South, safeguarding marine economic interests, strengthening the resilience of the ocean supply chain, and responding to climate change.

During the conference, Special Envoy Zhai Jun also met respectively with Yemeni Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Mustapha Ahmed Mohamed Noman and Swiss Special Envoy to the Middle East and North Africa Wolfgang Amadeus Brülhart at their request, and they had exchanges of views on the situation in the Middle East and hotspot issues of common interest and concern.
