On February 15, 2025 local time, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar at the latter's request on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference.
The two sides mainly had an exchange of views on the situation in Gaza. Gideon Sa'ar elaborated on Israel's position. Wang Yi pointed out that the Palestinian question is at the core of the Middle East issue. He emphasized that violence for violence will only lead to a new vicious cycle and the humanitarian disaster in Gaza must be brought to an end as soon as possible. Wang Yi expressed the hope that the ceasefire arrangement will be effectively implemented, with this serving as a foundation for achieving a comprehensive and lasting ceasefire. He also underscored that the fundamental way out of the Middle East issue lies in implementing the two-State solution, which could ultimately achieve peaceful coexistence between Palestine and Israel, and foster friendly exchanges between the Arab and Jewish peoples. China is willing to continue to uphold justice and play a constructive role in seeking a comprehensive and lasting resolution to the Palestinian question.
On China-Israel relations, Wang Yi noted that the Chinese and Jewish peoples share a long history of exchanges. Eighty years ago, during the fight against fascism, the two sides demonstrated mutual sympathy, helped each other, and forged a deep friendship between the two peoples. Since the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Israel more than 30 years ago, bilateral relations have made significant strides, with pragmatic cooperation steadily advancing across various fields. China always views the development of its relations with Israel from a long-term perspective and stands ready to work with Israel to push forward the development of the China-Israel innovative comprehensive partnership.
Gideon Sa'ar expressed gratitude to the Chinese people for sheltering the Jewish people during World War II and appreciated the contributions made by Chinese workers in overcoming difficulties of conflict for the development of Israel in recent years. He said Israel holds high expectations for Israel-China relations, will continue to uphold the one-China policy, and is willing to maintain dialogue and communication and advance cooperation across various fields with China.
