On October 10, 2022, Director-General of the Department of Asian Affairs of the Foreign Ministry Liu Jinsong met with Pakistani Ambassador to China Moin ul Haque.
Liu Jinsong said that the recent 51st session of the UN Human Rights Council (HRC) voted down the US-led draft decision on Xinjiang. This shows that justice has prevailed over. Most member states of the HRC, especially developing countries, have seen through the pernicious attempts of the United States and some other Western countries to "use Xinjiang to contain China", and deeply abhor their despicable tricks of using human rights as a pretext to interfere in other countries' internal affairs. Liu said Xinjiang is my hometown and a wonderful place. The people of all ethnic groups in Xinjiang welcome people from all walks of life and from all over the world to visit Xinjiang to experience and appreciate firsthand the real Xinjiang and its development. At the same time, we firmly reject acts of fabricating lies, smearing, political manipulation and double standards by some countries and forces, and oppose using human rights issues as a political tool and weapon. In his statement, the Permanent Representative of Pakistan in Geneva spoke in recognition of China's dialogue and engagement with the UN human rights mechanism, pointed out that the draft decision undermines the spirit of constructive engagement, and voiced support for China's efforts and achievements in human rights protection. China appreciates the Pakistani side's statement and its vote against the draft decision. This once again demonstrates the tradition of "ironclad" friendship and mutual support between China and Pakistan. It is also another example of the two sides defending international fairness and justice, upholding the right direction of the HRC and safeguarding the common interests of developing countries.
Liu Jinsong said that the recent worsening debt crisis and inflation spikes in some developing countries are closely linked to the aggressive interest rate hikes and balance sheet reduction by a certain developed country which has caused severe turbulence in the international financial market. To curb domestic inflation and serve its domestic political agenda, it ignores the spillover effect of its monetary policy adjustment, squeezes the monetary policy space of other countries, pushes up the inflation of other countries, and increases the debt burden of emerging economies. This may drag the world economy into stagflation and recession, bringing long-term negative effects on international trade and investment, the smooth operation of the industrial and supply chains, and global financial stability. It is abnormal for a country's currency to make trouble for all other countries. China is ready to work with Pakistan to follow closely some of the critical issues in global economic and financial governance, focus on development agenda, and jointly safeguard development outcomes.
Liu Jinsong said that the 77th session of the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution of solidarity with and support for Pakistan's response to the floods. China welcomes the resolution and supports Pakistan in seeking more international support through the international community and various multilateral platforms. China will continue to provide assistance to Pakistan through bilateral and multilateral channels, and stands ready to deepen cooperation with Pakistan in post-disaster reconstruction, disaster preparedness and mitigation, pandemic prevention and control and other areas.
Noting the great importance of the upcoming 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, Haque wished the Congress a complete success. He thanked the Chinese government and people of all sectors for their strong support for Pakistan's disaster relief and post-disaster reconstruction effort. Pakistan will maintain close strategic coordination with China, consolidate the all-weather strategic cooperative partnership with China, and strengthen exchanges and cooperation and multilateral coordination in various fields between the two sides. Pakistan is firmly committed to the one-China policy, and will continue to firmly support China on issues related to Xinjiang and human rights.
