On October 13, 2023, Special Envoy of the Chinese Government on the Middle East Issue Zhai Jun had a group meeting with diplomatic envoys of the Arab States to China and responsible officials of the Mission of the League of Arab States in China at the latter's request.

The Arab side introduced the relevant situation of the League of Arab States (LAS) hosting an emergency ministerial meeting on the Palestine-Israel situation and the position, and said that Israel's recent invasion of Palestine has caused heavy civilian casualties in Palestine. The current humanitarian situation in Palestine is very severe. Relevant moves of Israel are in violation of international law and international humanitarian law, and the international community has the responsibility to take immediate actions to ease the tension, promote the resumption of talks for peace, and safeguard the Palestinian people's lawful national rights. The Arab side highly appreciated and thanked China for upholding a just position on the Palestinian question for a long time, and expressed the hope that China will continue to play a positive and constructive role.

Zhai Jun said that China is saddened by the heavy casualties of civilians caused by the escalated tension between Palestine and Israel, opposes moves that harm civilians, and condemns acts in violation of international law. The top priority is to keep calm and exercise restraint, protect civilians, and provide necessary conditions for relieving the humanitarian crisis. The international community should earnestly enhance the sense of urgency in promoting the settlement of the Palestinian question, get back to the correct basis of the two-state solution, and realize peaceful coexistence between Palestine and Israel.

Zhai Jun said that China supports the LAS in playing an important role in the Palestinian question. At the next stage, China is ready to maintain communication and coordination with the LAS and the Arab States, continue the dialogue work with all relevant parties, and make relentless efforts to get the Middle East peace process back on the right track. China will continue to provide humanitarian assistance for Palestine and help relieve the humanitarian crisis facing the Palestinian people.
