Vice Foreign Minister Sun Weidong Makes Serious Démarches over Japanese Prime Minister Takaichi Sanae's Wrongful Remarks Regarding China
Updated: November 14, 2025 04:05

On November 13, 2025, Vice Foreign Minister Sun Weidong, as instructed, summoned Japanese Ambassador to China Kanasugi Kenji to make serious démarches over Japanese Prime Minister Takaichi Sanae's wrongful remarks regarding China.

Sun Weidong said that in a recent Diet interpellation, Japanese Prime Minister Takaichi Sanae made blatantly provocative remarks on Taiwan which imply the possibility of armed intervention in the Taiwan Strait. It is extremely egregious in nature and impact. Despite repeated serious démarches and protests from the Chinese side, the Japanese side still refused to change course and take back the wrongful remarks. China strongly deplores and opposes that, and has lodged serious démarches with and strong protests to the Japanese side.

Sun Weidong noted that Takaichi Sanae's remarks on Taiwan are extremely wrong and highly dangerous. That constitutes a blatant interference in China's internal affairs, grossly violates international law and the basic norms governing international relations, and severely undermines the post-war international order. It seriously runs counter to the one-China principle and the guiding principles set forth in the four China-Japan political documents, seriously undermines the political foundation of China-Japan relations, and severely hurts the sentiments of the Chinese people. The 1.4 billion Chinese people will never tolerate this!

Sun Weidong emphasized that the Taiwan question is at the very core of China's core interests and is an untouchable red line and bottom line. Taiwan is China's sacred territory, and Taiwan affairs are purely China's internal affairs. How to resolve the Taiwan question is a matter for the Chinese people and brooks no external interference. This year marks the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War. It is also the 80th anniversary of the recovery of Taiwan. Eighty years ago, the valiant Chinese people defeated the Japanese aggressors after fighting a bitter and heroic war of resistance for 14 years. Today, eighty years later, anyone who dares to interfere in China's great cause of reunification in any form will definitely meet a firm response from China. China once again urges Japan to fully repent for its war crimes, immediately reflect and correct its wrongdoing, take back its egregious remarks, and not go further down the wrong path. Otherwise, all consequences must be borne by Japan.
