On the afternoon of January 19, 2026, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC) Zhao Leji held talks with Speaker of the National Assembly of Pakistan Sardar Ayaz Sadiq at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.
Zhao Leji said that China and Pakistan are ironclad friends and all-weather strategic cooperative partners. Last year, President Xi Jinping met respectively with President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, providing new strategic guidance for the development of China-Pakistan relations. This year marks the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Pakistan. China is ready to work with Pakistan to implement the important common understandings reached by the leaders of the two countries, accelerate the building of an even closer China-Pakistan community with a shared future in the new era, and bring greater benefits to the two peoples.
Zhao Leji noted that China highly appreciates Pakistan's long-standing and firm support on issues related to China's core interests and major concerns. China will, as always, firmly support Pakistan in safeguarding its state independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity, and national dignity, and support Pakistan in maintaining unity and stability and achieving development and prosperity. China is willing to further synergize its 15th Five-Year Plan with Pakistan's National Economic Transformation Plan (URAAN Pakistan) for the 2024-2029 period, work with Pakistan to advance the development of the upgraded Version 2.0 of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), and to deliver more achievements in key areas such as industry, agriculture, mining, transportation and people's livelihoods. China supports Pakistan's resolute efforts to combat terrorism. The two sides should jointly organize activities to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Pakistan, and deepen exchanges and cooperation in culture, education, youth, media, and other fields. China appreciates Pakistan's pioneering support for the four global initiatives proposed by President Xi Jinping and is willing to work together to implement these initiatives effectively, jointly defend the United Nations Charter and international law, uphold true multilateralism, and promote international fairness and justice.
Zhao Leji emphasized that China's NPC is willing to work with the National Assembly of Pakistan to strengthen exchanges and cooperation at multiple levels and in multiple fields, focusing on topics such as rural revitalization and green development, and to deepen the sharing of working experience in state governance, legislation, and supervision. He stated the need to promptly formulate and adopt legal documents conducive to bilateral cooperation, providing legal safeguards for the CPEC and the Belt and Road cooperation. He also called for enhanced coordination and cooperation on multilateral platforms such as the Inter-Parliamentary Union and the Asian Parliamentary Assembly to safeguard the common interests of both countries and other developing nations. Zhao Leji also gave an introduction to the system of people's congresses.
Sardar Ayaz Sadiq stated that the ironclad friendship between Pakistan and China remains strong over time, and the bilateral relationship is of strategic significance. Pakistan firmly supports China's position on core interests and major concerns related to Taiwan, Xinjiang, and Xizang. He expressed hope to further strengthen bilateral cooperation in various fields such as economy, trade, investment, infrastructure development, people-to-people and cultural exchanges, and personnel training. The National Assembly of Pakistan is willing to deepen exchanges and cooperation with China's NPC and make legislative contributions to advancing Pakistan-China friendship.
