On January 8, 2026, Director-General of the Department of Asian Affairs of the Foreign Ministry Liu Jinsong met with Director-General of the Asia-Pacific and Africa Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Laos Bounthanongsack Chanthalath.

Liu Jinsong extended congratulations on the successful convening of the 12th National Congress of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party. He cited the Lao proverb, "A single piece of wood cannot form a fence." He noted that China and Laos keep united and pull together in a shared future, and that the Chinese side always views China-Laos relations from a strategic and long-term perspective. China is ready to work with Laos to implement the strategic consensus reached by the top leaders of the two parties and countries, and take the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations as an opportunity to consolidate strategic mutual trust, enhance solidarity and cooperation, support each other's core interests, defend international fairness and justice, and continuously enrich the contemporary significance of the China-Laos community with a shared future.

Bounthanongsack Chanthalath expressed gratitude for China's assistance and support in Laos' socialist development cause. He emphasized that Laos firmly adheres to the one-China principle, actively supports China's major initiatives and concepts, appreciates China's important contributions to world peace and development, and is willing to jointly promote the building of a Laos-China community with a shared future.
