On the morning of April 15, 2026, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and President Xi Jinping and General Secretary of the Communist Party of Viet Nam Central Committee and President of Viet Nam To Lam, who is on a state visit to China, jointly met with Chinese and Vietnamese youth representatives participating in the "Red Study Tour" at the Great Hall of the People.

Xi Jinping delivered remarks, saying that last year General Secretary To Lam and he jointly launched the "Red Study Tour" initiative. Over the past year, young people of the two countries have together reviewed the revolutionary traditions of China-Viet Nam friendship and experienced the manifold splendor of Chinese modernization, leaving behind many vivid stories of mutual learning, mutual understanding and friendship in various parts of China. Not long ago, he received letters written in Chinese from students of the Foreign Language Specialized School under Viet Nam National University, Hanoi and other schools, in which they shared their profound insights on joining the "Red Study Tour" and expressed their resolve to carry forward and promote China-Viet Nam friendship. He was heartened to read their letters.

Xi Jinping stressed that young people are a vital force driving social development and progress, and are also the torchbearers who will carry forward the cause of the two Parties and two countries from generation to generation. He expressed the following three hopes for the youth: first, he hopes that they will reach out to each other, and let the profound friendship featuring “camaraderie plus brotherhood” between China and Viet Nam shine with renewed youthful brilliance; second, he hopes that they will step forward with a strong sense of responsibility and harness youthful vitality and creativity to stir a surging tide of innovation, openness, cooperation and win-win outcomes; third, he hopes that they will bear in mind the overall interests of the world, strive to be the vanguard in building a community with a shared future for humanity, and contribute youthful strength to the cause of human progress.

To Lam said that since the launch of the "Red Study Tour" a year ago, thousands of Vietnamese youth have visited revolutionary sites in China retracing the footsteps of the earlier generation of leaders, gaining a deeper understanding of the revolutionary traditions and profound friendship between the two countries. The youth are an important bridge for the relations between the two Parties and two countries. He expressed the hope that the youth of the two countries will further strengthen their ideals and convictions, enhance their political competence, acquire scientific knowledge, and deepen their understanding of Viet Nam-China relations, so as to play an important role in the development of their respective countries and in promoting bilateral friendship.

Over 200 Vietnamese and more than 100 Chinese youth representatives participating in the "Red Study Tour" attended the event. The youth of both countries responded with warm applause to the important remarks made by the two leaders.

The "Red Study Tour" initiative was jointly announced by General Secretary and President Xi Jinping and To Lam during Xi Jinping’s visit to Viet Nam in April 2025. It aims to encourage young people of the two countries to follow the revolutionary footsteps of the older-generation leaders, explore the revolutionary traditions of China-Viet Nam friendship, and pool youthful strength for advancing the socialist cause of both countries and building a China-Viet Nam community with a shared future that carries strategic significance.

Cai Qi, Wang Yi, Yin Li, Wang Xiaohong and others were present.
