On November 24, 2021, Assistant Foreign Minister Wu Jianghao and Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Trade and Industry of Singapore Gabriel Lim Meng Liang held a senior officials' meeting under the China-Singapore bilateral cooperation mechanism via video link.

Wu Jianghao said that China-Singapore relations remain vibrant and resilient despite the persistent COVID-19 pandemic and complicated and evolving international and regional circumstances. The phone conversation between President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong in October has set out new important and strategic guidelines for the development of bilateral relations. The two sides coordinate COVID-19 response and development cooperation, advance the Belt and Road Initiative and the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor against the downward trend, and make the digital economy and green development new sources of economic growth.

Wu Jianghao stressed that this year marks the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China (CPC). The sixth plenary session of the 19th CPC Central Committee was successfully held not long ago. China will continue to hold high the banner of building a community with a shared future for mankind, make new contributions to the cause of peace and development of all humanity, and share with the international community including Singapore new opportunities. He hopes that both sides will make good preparations for this year's mechanism meetings and put forward new thoughts and new routes in response to new circumstances and new challenges, in order to speed up the recovery and development of the two countries and achieve greater mutual benefits and win-win results.

Gabriel Lim Meng Liang said that in the past 100 years, especially in the past 40 odd years since the reform and opening up, the CPC has led the Chinese people to eradicate extreme poverty, realize rapid social and economic development and significantly elevate China's international status. Singapore highly admires all these efforts. The Singaporean side has long paid close attention to and actively aligns with China's development strategies, carried out practical cooperation with China to keep up with the times, and facilitated respective development of the two countries. The meeting under the Singapore-China bilateral cooperation mechanism is the highest-level platform for the two sides to discuss cooperation and share ideas. Singapore looks forward to working with China to make this year's meeting a success and jointly tackle global and regional challenges, pushing Singapore-China relations to new heights.
