Special Envoy on Afghan Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Yue Xiaoyong Visits Indonesia

From November 25 to 27, 2022, Special Envoy on Afghan Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Yue Xiaoyong visited Indonesia, met with Director for South and Central Asian Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Indonesia Yohannes Prasetyo in Jakarta, and held dialogue and exchanges with General Secretary of Nahdlatul Ulama Alissa Walid, and relevant politicians and scholars.

Special Envoy Yue Xiaoyong briefed the Indonesian side on the important outcomes and far-reaching significance of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC), and emphasized that China will continue to follow the principle of amity, sincerity, mutual benefit and inclusiveness and pursue friendship and partnership in its diplomacy with its neighbors, and work with Indonesia and other countries in the region to achieve common development and prosperity and pursue modernization together. Yue also congratulated Indonesia on successfully hosting the G20 Summit and expressed condolences on the recent earthquake disaster in West Java Province of Indonesia.

Yue elaborated on China's position, propositions, policies and measures on the Afghan issue, and said that China attaches importance to Indonesia’s important role on the Afghan issue and is ready to strengthen bilateral and multilateral communication and coordination with Indonesia to help Afghanistan maintain stability and stop the chaos, build a broad-based and inclusive government, exercise moderate governance, restore development, and effectively fight terrorism, safeguard regional peace, stability and security, and further enrich the China-Indonesia comprehensive strategic partnership.

Different sectors in Indonesia extended warm congratulations on the full success of the 20th CPC National Congress, and highly appreciated China’s efforts and contributions to Afghanistan’s peace and reconstruction as well as regional stability and prosperity. The Indonesian side said that Indonesia, as the country with the largest Muslim population in the world, is ready to leverage its strengths to increase constructive engagement with Afghanistan and work with China, Afghanistan’s neighboring countries and the international community to promote peace, stability and long-term security in Afghanistan.
