​Wang Yi Holds Talks with Myanmar's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister U Than Swe

On August 14, 2024 local time, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Myanmar's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister U Than Swe in Nay Pyi Taw.

Wang Yi said, for more than 70 years, regardless of the changing international landscape, China and Myanmar have always upheld the spirit of the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence that they jointly advocate, setting a fine example of relations between countries of different sizes based on equality and mutual support. China is ready to work with Myanmar to carry forward the "pauk-phaw" friendship, continue to support and help each other, and jointly push forward the building of a China-Myanmar community with a shared future.

Wang Yi said that as the world today is undergoing both transformation and upheaval, China's development contributes to the forces for world peace and strengthens the stabilizing factors. The 20th CPC Central Committee recently held its third plenary session, which clearly stated that China will further deepen reforms comprehensively, build a high-standard socialist market economy, and promote high-quality development and high-standard opening-up. This will provide new opportunities and new momentum for China-Myanmar cooperation. China is ready to deepen Belt and Road cooperation with Myanmar, follow through on the three major global initiatives, and steadily advance the building of a China-Myanmar community with a shared future. The two sides should maintain high-level exchanges and enhance political mutual trust, steadily promote the development of the China-Myanmar Economic Corridor, and ensure the safe and smooth operation of the China-Myanmar oil and gas pipeline project, strengthen security cooperation and jointly combat cross-border criminal activities, accelerate cooperation in agriculture and other fields to help Myanmar improve people's livelihoods. Wang Yi said, taking the opportunity of celebrating the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Myanmar next year, the two sides will carry out a series of celebration activities, strengthen people-to-people and cultural exchanges, and consolidate public support for friendship.

U Than Swe said, Myanmar-China relations enjoy a long history and a deep "pauk-phaw" friendship, and the two countries will celebrate the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations next year. Myanmar attaches great importance to its relations with China, adheres to the one-China principle and supports the Belt and Road Initiative, the three major global initiatives and the vision of a community with a shared future for mankind. Myanmar is willing to work with China to engage in closer exchanges at all levels, speed up the construction of major projects within the framework of the China-Myanmar Economic Corridor, deepen cooperation in agriculture, energy, tourism and other fields, and work for more results in building a Myanmar-China community with a shared future, so as to benefit the Myanmar people. U Than Swe said that Myanmar will make all-out efforts to ensure the safety of Chinese project personnel in Myanmar, effectively safeguard security and stability at the Myanmar-China border, and combat cross-border crimes with China.

The two sides had an exchange of views on Lancang-Mekong Cooperation (LMC). They agreed to deliver on the important common understandings reached at the fourth LMC Leaders' Meeting, realize the goal of building a community with a shared future for Lancang-Mekong countries, work for more fruitful LMC results, and jointly promote stable development and regional integration.
