On February 21, 2025 local time, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Indian External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar in Johannesburg.

Wang Yi said, President Xi Jinping and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a successful meeting in Kazan last year, which set the general direction for the improvement and development of bilateral relations. The two sides agreed that China and India, as two ancient civilizations and neighboring countries, should trust and support each other and help each other succeed. Exchanges at all levels between the two countries have resumed in an orderly manner, while the special representatives on the boundary question have reached common understandings on properly handling specific differences. Restoring mutual trust and achieving win-win cooperation between China and India align with the common expectations of the two peoples. Both sides should take the common understandings reached between the leaders of the two countries as fundamental guidance to ensure that bilateral relations remain on the right track. China is ready to work with India to plan commemorative activities for the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, to inject new impetus into the development of bilateral relations.

Dr. Subrahmanyam Jaishankar said, the meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Xi Jinping in Kazan has provided crucial guidance for the improvement of bilateral relations. Exchanges between the two sides in various fields have gradually resumed and yielded remarkable results. The establishment of mutual trust between India and China serves the interests of both sides, and India cherishes the hard-won achievements in improving bilateral relations. India stands ready to work with China to speed up the resumption of cooperation mechanisms, enhance people-to-people and cultural exchanges, facilitate personnel travels, and jointly safeguard peace and tranquility in the border areas. As the world today faces the risk of division and polarization, it is particularly important for India and China, as members of the G20, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and the BRICS mechanism, to strengthen international cooperation. India is ready to strengthen communication and coordination with China in this regard.
