On April 21, 2025, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister Wang Yi held talks with Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono in Beijing.

Wang Yi said that under the strategic guidance of President Xi Jinping and President Prabowo Subianto, China-Indonesia relations have maintained smooth development. Last year, the two sides reached an important consensus on building a China-Indonesia community with a shared future with regional and global influence, and upgraded the cooperation pattern from "four-pillar" cooperation covering political, economic, people-to-people exchange and maritime aspects, to "five-pillar" cooperation with the addition of security as the fifth pillar, opening up broad prospects for China-Indonesia cooperation. This morning, the two sides successfully held the First Ministerial Meeting of China-Indonesia Joint Foreign and Defense Ministerial Dialogue, achieving substantial outcomes and elevating the political, security, and defense cooperation between the two countries to a new level.

Wang Yi said that both sides are celebrating the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Indonesia, ushering in important opportunities for the two countries' respective development and bilateral relations. China has always regarded Indonesia as a companion in development and a good partner in cooperation. China is ready to work with Indonesia, guided by the important common understandings reached between the two heads of state, to continuously strengthen the cooperation framework across the "five pillars", jointly accelerate the modernization drive of both countries, and contribute to regional and global prosperity and stability. Both sides should focus on high-quality cooperation, synergize Chinese modernization with the "Golden Indonesia 2045" vision, and leverage high-quality Belt and Road cooperation to promote the sustainable operation of landmark projects such as the Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Railway, and take advantage of the "Two Countries, Two Parks" and the Regional Comprehensive Economic Corridor to create a new flagship for cooperation on connectivity. Both sides should uphold free trade, boost the facilitation of bilateral trade and investment, and build secure, stable, and smooth industrial and supply chains. China is ready to import more Indonesian products and hopes the Indonesian government will ensure the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese-funded institutions and personnel in Indonesia. Both sides should develop emerging industries, strengthen and expand mutually beneficial cooperation in areas such as scientific and technological innovation, digital economy, green development, low-altitude economy, marine affairs, and fisheries, and foster new drivers of new quality productive forces. Both sides should also broaden cooperation that delivers real benefits to the people, actively carry out cooperation in areas such as food and agriculture, health, poverty alleviation, disaster prevention and mitigation, and rural revitalization, and strengthen cultural, educational, tourism, and youth exchanges, so as to cement the foundation for the enduring friendship between China and Indonesia.

Wang Yi stressed that this year marks the 80th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations and the 70th anniversary of the Bandung Conference. Amid the U.S.-instigated global trade war and headwinds against economic globalization, China and Indonesia, as important major developing countries and major forces in the Global South, are both upholders of economic globalization and trade liberalization. The two countries should take a historic initiative to enhance mutual trust and cooperation, work together to promote the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence and the Bandung Spirit, safeguard the multilateral trading system with the World Trade Organization at its core, defend international fairness and justice, and send a signal of unity and openness to the world, further demonstrating the regional and global influence of China-Indonesia relations.

Sugiono said that the First Ministerial Meeting of China-Indonesia Joint Foreign and Defense Ministerial Dialogue held this morning was successful. Noting that China is Indonesia's largest trading partner and a major source of foreign investment, Sugiono said that Indonesia has always regarded China as one of its most important partners, and bilateral relations have maintained strong momentum over the years. This year marks the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Indonesia. Indonesia attaches great importance and is committed to comprehensively deepening relations with China. Indonesia looks forward to enhancing exchanges with China at all levels, expanding practical cooperation in fields such as economy and trade, investment, agriculture and fisheries, health care, clean energy, scientific and technological innovation, and enhancing people-to-people and cultural exchanges, so as to continuously strengthen the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries, and work for more dynamic and resilient regional development and prosperity.

Both sides agreed to join hands to follow through on the cooperation document on maritime joint development signed by the two governments.
