On May 19, 2025, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister Wang Yi had a phone call with Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski at the latter's request.
Wang Yi said that Poland is an important strategic partner of China in Europe. China is ready to maintain high-level exchanges with Poland and expand practical cooperation across various fields. This year marks the 80th anniversary of the victory of the World Anti-Fascist War and the founding of the United Nations. China is ready to work with Poland to uphold the post-World War II international order, safeguard the central role of the United Nations, and defend international law and basic norms governing international relations. The return of Taiwan to China was one of the outcomes of the victory in World War II and forms part of the post-war international order. Wang Yi expressed the hope that Poland will uphold the international consensus, continue to adhere to the one-China policy, and oppose any form of "Taiwan independence" attempts. This year also marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the European Union (EU). Wang Yi expects that Poland, as the rotating presidency of the EU, will play a more constructive role in promoting greater progress in China-EU relations.
Radoslaw Sikorski said that Poland attaches great importance to its relations with China and will continue to uphold the one-China policy. Poland is committed to strengthening exchanges at all levels with China, deepening mutually beneficial cooperation across various fields, jointly safeguarding the post-World War II international order, and advancing the sustained development of Poland-China and EU-China relations.
The two sides also had an exchange of views on the Ukraine crisis. Wang Yi said that the evolving situation of the Ukraine crisis has proven that the four points proposed by President Xi Jinping on what must be done take into account the concerns of all parties and serve as important guiding principles for promoting the political settlement of the Ukraine crisis. China has consistently committed to facilitating talks for peace, and has never given up efforts for peace, including establishing the Group of Friends for Peace with Global South countries. Recently, Russia and Ukraine resumed direct negotiations. Despite their different positions, the two countries have taken the first step towards peace. China hopes that all parties will further demonstrate the will to seek a political resolution to the crisis and eventually reach a fair, lasting and binding peace agreement through sustained dialogue. Radoslaw Sikorski expects that China will continue to play an active role in promoting lasting peace in Europe.
