On May 20, 2025, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Chair of the National Economic Council of Indonesia Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan in Beijing.
Wang Yi said that President Xi Jinping and President Prabowo Subianto met twice last year and reached important common understandings on deepening the all-round strategic cooperation between the two countries, building a cooperation framework of "five pillars", including security cooperation. This year marks the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Indonesia. The friendship between the two countries has withstood the test of changing international dynamics, becoming a valuable asset shared by both sides. China is ready to work with Indonesia to deepen political mutual trust, advance flagship projects such as the Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Railway and the Regional Comprehensive Economic Corridor with high quality, strengthen cooperation in various fields such as ocean and minerals, and explore the potential for cooperation in emerging sectors to support high-quality development in both countries.
Wang Yi stressed that the world is currently facing the impact of the countercurrent of unilateralism, and that trade bullying actions undermine the interests of all countries. In the face of various risks and challenges, China and Indonesia should remain true to the original aspiration of establishing diplomatic relations, uphold independence, expand win-win cooperation, and safeguard fairness and justice. China congratulates Indonesia on becoming a full member of BRICS. China is ready to work with Indonesia to jointly carry forward the Bandung Spirit of solidarity and cooperation, safeguard the hard-won peace and stability in the Asia-Pacific, advance regional economic integration, and resist the impacts of unilateralism and de-globalization. The two countries will join hands to build a shared home in the Asia-Pacific, leverage the China-Indonesia community with a shared future to advance the building of a neighborhood community with a shared future, and further promote the building of a community with a shared future for mankind.
Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan said, Indonesia and China enjoy a strong friendship. As a Chinese poem goes, "A bosom friend afar brings a distant land near", a fitting description of the close relations between the two countries. Under the joint leadership of the two heads of state, the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two sides has continuously achieved new progress. Indonesia's economic development cannot be separated from mutually beneficial cooperation with China. Bilateral cooperation has yielded fruitful results in various fields, including economy and trade, finance, technology transfer, and talent development. Landmark projects such as the Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Railway have brought tangible benefits to the people of both countries and bilateral cooperation has also extended its benefits to neighboring countries. This year marks the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, as well as the 70th anniversary of the Bandung Conference. Amity between the people holds the key to state-to-state relations, and close bonds are the foundation of amity between the people. Indonesia looks forward to strengthening exchanges at all levels with China, expanding cooperation areas, enhancing people-to-people and cultural exchanges, pushing for greater development in the Indonesia-China community with a shared future, and jointly promoting solidarity and cooperation among countries in the Global South.
The two sides also had an exchange of views on international and regional issues of common interest and concern.
