On May 26, 2025, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister Wang Yi had a phone call with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov.
Wang Yi said that the high-level exchanges between China and Turkmenistan have provided strategic guidance for the development of bilateral relations. As a responsible major country, China consistently develops friendly relations with all nations based on the principle of equality among all countries regardless of size. China's policy towards Turkmenistan has maintained continuity and stability. China cherishes the traditional friendship with Turkmenistan, and always views its relations with Turkmenistan from a strategic and long-term perspective. China is ready to work with Turkmenistan to continue to firmly support each other on issues concerning their respective core interests, actively promote cooperation in various fields including natural gas, accommodate each other's reasonable needs, create more models of mutually beneficial cooperation, help Turkmenistan accelerate economic diversification, and provide support for advancing their respective modernization processes.
Wang Yi stated that China welcomes Turkmenistan to play a greater role in international and regional affairs, and supports the international initiatives proposed by Turkmenistan. China is ready to strengthen communication and coordination with Turkmenistan to jointly work for the positive outcomes of the second China-Central Asia Summit and make greater contributions to regional peace, stability, development and prosperity.
Rashid Meredov stated that the friendship between Turkmenistan and China has a long history. Thanks to the strategic guidance of the two heads of state, Turkmenistan and China have established a comprehensive strategic partnership and carried out all-round cooperation. Turkmenistan regards China as a reliable partner for cooperation and remains firmly committed to friendship with China. Turkmenistan is willing to jointly follow through on the important common understandings reached between the two heads of state, enhance high-level exchanges, expand cooperation in various fields such as economy, trade and investment, and discuss the promotion of flagship projects in natural gas trade. Turkmenistan supports the series of important global initiatives proposed by China and is willing to continue to maintain coordination with China on multilateral affairs.
