On the afternoon of May 29, 2025, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met in Hong Kong with Chairman of Asian Peace and Reconciliation Council and former Deputy Prime Minister of Thailand Surakiart Sathirathai, who is in attendance for the signing ceremony of the Convention on the Establishment of the International Organization for Mediation.
Wang Yi said that China and Thailand are as close as one family, and the friendship between the two countries has grown stronger. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Thailand and the "Golden Jubilee of China-Thailand Friendship". The two sides should follow through on the important common understandings reached by the leaders of the two countries, enhance strategic synergy, advance practical cooperation, and jointly usher in the next golden 50 years of building a China-Thailand community with a shared future.
Wang Yi said that China's initiative to establish the International Organization for Mediation provides the international community with a new option to resolve disputes and achieve reconciliation on a voluntary basis. It is also a concrete action to practice multilateralism and uphold the spirit of the United Nations Charter. China is ready to work with other Asian countries to make good use of regional mechanisms such as China-ASEAN, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation, and the Asia Cooperation Dialogue, so as to jointly safeguard the hard-won peace and stability in Asia.
Surakiart Sathirathai expressed his honor to be invited to Hong Kong to witness the birth of the International Organization for Mediation. Under the current international circumstances, China's initiative is timely and receives positive responses and broad support from all sides. Multilateralism is the way forward for human society. The Asian Peace and Reconciliation Council shares similar ideas and common goals with the International Organization for Mediation. He expects to strengthen cooperation with China to form synergy and make greater contributions to peace and development in Asia.
