On the afternoon of May 30, 2025, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met in Hong Kong with Nepali Foreign Minister Arzu Rana Deuba, who attended the signing ceremony of the Convention on the Establishment of the International Organization for Mediation (IOMed).
Wang Yi noted that this morning, senior representatives from over 80 countries and nearly 20 international organizations gathered in Hong Kong to participate in this grand event, demonstrating that resolving disputes through mediation is a common aspiration of all parties, serves the interests of developing countries, and is the direction indicated by the trend of the times and the United Nations Charter. China appreciates Foreign Minister Arzu Rana Deuba's special trip to Hong Kong to attend the ceremony, and looks forward to Nepal's early accession to the IOMed, making joint contribution to the improvement of global governance.
Wang Yi said that China and Nepal are traditionally friendly neighbors. China has always placed Nepal in an important position in its neighborhood diplomacy. In December last year, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli successfully paid an official visit to China. This year marks the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Nepal, and the strategic partnership of cooperation featuring ever-lasting friendship for development and prosperity between the two countries faces new opportunities for growth. China is ready to summarize successful experiences with Nepal, advance high-quality Belt and Road cooperation, and jointly create a better and more glorious China-Nepal relationship for the next 70 years.
Arzu Rana Deuba congratulated China on the successful signing ceremony of the Convention on the Establishment of the IOMed, and said that it is an ideal choice to have the IOMed headquarters in Hong Kong. Nepal-China relations are based on friendship, equality, and respect. She expressed gratitude for the valuable assistance provided by the Chinese side to Nepal's national development and the improvement of people's livelihoods over the years. Nepal firmly abides by the one-China principle, supports the policy of "One Country, Two Systems", and will never allow any force to use Nepal's territory to engage in activities that harm China's interests. Nepal is willing to enhance high-level exchanges with China, deepen practical cooperation, and promote better development of Nepal-China relations.
