On June 12, 2025, the fourth China-Africa Economic and Trade Expo was held in Changsha. Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister Wang Yi, Prime Minister of Uganda Robinah Nabbanja, Vice President of Liberia Jeremiah Kpan Koung, Kenyan Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs Musalia Mudavadi, and Secretary of the CPC Hunan Provincial Committee Shen Xiaoming attended and addressed the event, which was chaired by Governor of Hunan Province Mao Weiming. Ministerial officials and diplomatic envoys from African countries to China, representatives from the African Union Commission and international organizations in China, as well as responsible officials from relevant Chinese departments including the Ministry of Commerce, attended the event.
Wang Yi said that the establishment of the China-Africa Economic and Trade Expo is a major proposal for cooperation with Africa personally announced by President Xi Jinping. With strong support from various sectors in China and Africa, the Expo has been successfully held for three sessions and has become a new mechanism for China-Africa economic and trade cooperation, a new platform for implementing the outcomes of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation, and a new window for sub-national economic and trade cooperation with Africa. It has played an important role in deepening China-Africa relations. Wang Yi expressed confidence that this Expo will surely create more cooperation opportunities for both sides, generate more cooperation outcomes, and provide stronger support for jointly building an all-weather China-Africa community with a shared future for the new era.
Wang Yi said that the theme of this Expo is "China and Africa: Together Toward Modernization". Achieving modernization is a shared aspiration of the more than 2.8 billion people in China and Africa, and a key theme of a China-Africa community with a shared future. No matter how the international landscape may evolve, China will always stand firmly with Africa, offering strong support for the continent's modernization and serving as a true friend and sincere brother in Africa's journey toward development.
First, China will further promote exchanges on governance with Africa, jointly discuss pathways to accelerate modernization, and support African countries in exploring modernization paths suited to their national conditions. Second, China will seek greater synergy of development strategies with Africa, accelerate the implementation of the ten partnership actions, and advance China-Africa cooperation to greater heights, deeper levels, and wider fields. Third, China will further expand its openness to Africa, negotiate and sign agreements on economic partnership for shared development, and encourage more African products to enter the Chinese market. Fourth, China will further deepen pragmatic cooperation with Africa, support Africa in advancing industrialization and digital transformation, continuously stimulate the vitality of provinces and cities, enterprises, and industry organizations, and create more new highlights in cooperation.
Leaders from the African side, including Prime Minister of Uganda and Vice President of Liberia, expressed that the theme of this Expo – "China and Africa: Together Toward Modernization" - has resonated widely among African countries, fully demonstrating China's firm commitment to high-quality and mutually beneficial cooperation with Africa. The Africa-China partnership is founded on mutual respect and their cooperation is characterized by openness and inclusiveness. Over the years, China has made significant contributions to African countries' infrastructure construction and economic development, serving as an indispensable and sincere partner in Africa's journey towards modernization. The ten partnership actions have opened new doors of opportunity for Africa, and African countries look forward to expanding all-round cooperation in economy, trade and investment, industrial parks, green energy, digital transition, logistics and transportation, and agricultural modernization, with a view to translating bilateral consensus into tangible outcomes. They expressed willingness to work with China in solidarity to build a bright future of sustainable development and shared prosperity for Africa and China.
The Expo attracted nearly 4,700 Chinese and African enterprises and more than 30,000 participants from China and abroad. The total amount of preliminary cooperation projects reached at the Expo exceeded 11 billion U.S. dollars.
