On June 18, 2025, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister Wang Yi had a phone call with Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration and Expatriates Badr Abdel Aaty at the latter's request.
Badr Abdel Aaty said that the current situation in the region is dangerous, and the international community is highly concerned that the Middle East may plunge into full-scale turmoil, which directly threatens the security of countries in the region. Israel's attack on Iran clearly violates international law. Egypt condemns this and hopes the Iranian nuclear issue will return to the track of political settlement as soon as possible.
Wang Yi said that Israel's actions, which disregard international law and norms, have sharply escalated tensions in the Middle East. China is deeply concerned about the risk of the situation spiraling out of control. China once again calls on the parties to the conflict, especially Israel, to prioritize the interests and well-being of the people in the region, immediately achieve a ceasefire, ease tensions, and create conditions for a return to dialogue and negotiation. Egypt recently led 20 Arab and Islamic countries in issuing a joint statement by foreign ministers, jointly calling for a ceasefire and cessation of hostilities, the resumption of negotiations on the Iranian nuclear issue, and the maintenance of lasting peace in the region. This is a timely and necessary move to help de-escalate the situation, and China fully supports it.
Wang Yi pointed out that at this critical moment, the international community, especially regional countries, should further build consensus and take more consistent actions. China is ready to work with Egypt to enhance communication and coordination on multilateral platforms such as the United Nations, make every effort to facilitate talks for peace, and make unremitting efforts to strive for peace.
