On July 2, 2025 local time, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister Wang Yi held talks with Belgian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Maxime Prévot.

Wang Yi said that Belgium, as a founding member of the European Union (EU), is located in the "heart of Europe". China and Belgium respect and trust each other, and have established an all-round partnership of friendly cooperation, serving as a force of stability in China-EU relations. President Xi Jinping stressed that China and Belgium, as well as China and the EU, need to build more bridges rather than erect walls. Under the current circumstances, it is all the more necessary for China and the EU to strengthen face-to-face exchanges, enhance mutual trust and dispel misunderstandings. He expressed the hope that the new Belgian government will continue to build bridges of dialogue, understanding and cooperation between China and the EU. China is accelerating efforts to foster a new pattern of high-standard opening up, and will further lower market access thresholds and adopt more measures to facilitate people-to-people exchanges between China and Belgium.

Wang Yi stated that this year marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the EU. China supports European integration and hopes that the EU will view China's development and rejuvenation in a positive and friendly manner, and pursue a rational and pragmatic policy toward China. In the face of changes and turbulence, China looks forward to strengthening strategic communication and coordination with the EU, jointly upholding the purposes and principles of the United Nations Charter, safeguarding the international free trade system, and defending international fairness and justice.

Maxime Prévot said that China has demonstrated remarkable vitality in its development and is one of the most important trading partners of Belgium. Belgium-China high-quality bilateral relations have yielded fruitful outcomes. No matter how the situation evolves, Belgium will remain China's friend and will continue to deepen cooperation and jointly create the future with a positive and constructive attitude, so as to better support each other's development. Belgium appreciates China's visa-free policy for Belgian citizens and hopes to further strengthen people-to-people and cultural exchanges with China. Noting that Taiwan is part of China, he said Belgium respects China's sovereignty and reiterated Belgium's continued commitment to the one-China policy. Amid the current complex and tense geopolitical situation, both the EU and China are committed to multilateralism and upholding international law. Belgium looks forward to taking the upcoming EU-China Summit as an opportunity to strengthen communication and cooperation to jointly address challenges.

The two sides also exchanged views on the hotspot issues of common interest and concern.
