Wang Yi said that this year marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the European Union (EU), and the future direction of China-EU relations has attracted attention from all parties. This year also marks the 80th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations, and all eyes will be on the choices humanity makes. The more complex and challenging the international landscape becomes, the more China and the EU, as two great civilizations and major forces, need to strengthen communication, enhance mutual trust, and assume responsibilities, firmly serving as forces of global stability and certainty. The upcoming China-EU Summit is an important meeting to be held at a critical juncture. China looks forward to working with the EU to summarize the valuable experience and significant insights from the development of China-EU relations over the past 50 years, and map out the prospects for dialogue and cooperation in the next 50 years, sending a clear, positive, and proactive signal to the world. China has always supported the process of European integration. Both sides should uphold multilateralism and free trade, safeguard international rules and order, promote the peaceful resolution of international disputes, and join hands in addressing global challenges such as climate change. China remains committed to high-quality development and high-standard opening up, and is ready to work with the EU to uphold the positioning as partners, deepen economic and trade cooperation, expand two-way openness, properly handle differences through consultation, and achieve mutual benefit and win-win results.
Ursula von der Leyen said the upcoming EU-China Summit will be the best opportunity for both sides to jointly celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. The EU is committed to developing stable and constructive relations with China, and mutually beneficial economic and trade cooperation. Ursula von der Leyen said she looks forward to the in-depth communication with Chinese leaders on issues of common interest and concern. This demonstrates the commitment and responsibility of the EU and China to further deepen cooperation and jointly tackle climate change and other global challenges, and sends a strong and positive signal to the world. She reiterated that the EU will continue to uphold the one-China policy.
