On September 19, 2025, China Foreign Affairs University (CFAU) held a ceremony commemorating its 70th founding anniversary in Beijing. Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister Wang Yi attended the event and delivered a speech.
Wang Yi said that CFAU is a university with a glorious history and fine traditions. Born and thriving with the diplomatic cause of the People's Republic of China, it has followed an extraordinary path of development and made important contributions to the country's diplomatic endeavors. Facing the current changing and turbulent international landscape, China's diplomacy, under the scientific guidance of Xi Jinping Thought on Diplomacy, has held high the banner of building a community with a shared future for mankind, and remained a staunch force for peace, stability, and progress in the world. Major-country diplomacy with Chinese characteristics has entered a new historical stage where much more can be accomplished. This provides CFAU with a broader stage for development while setting higher requirements for its future. With a more innovative and pioneering spirit and a more pragmatic work style, CFAU should make new achievements in talent education, scale new heights in theoretical innovation, blaze new trails in discipline development, and open new chapters in openness and cooperation, thus cultivating more loyal and reliable talents capable of shouldering major responsibilities, contributing more Chinese wisdom to building a community with a shared future for mankind, and providing stronger support for major-country diplomacy with Chinese characteristics.
Wang Yi encouraged CFAU students to set lofty goals, follow the right path, and dedicate themselves to concrete actions. He called on the students to link their personal ideals closely with the needs of the country, strengthen political loyalty, solidify professional competence, temper their fighting spirit, and shoulder responsibilities with courage, so as to take on the historic mission of advancing China's major-country diplomacy and write a splendid chapter for their generation.
Secretary of the CPC Committee of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Qi Yu also attended and addressed the event. Secretary of the CPC CFAU Committee Wang Shiting delivered remarks, and President of CFAU Wang Fan presided over the event. About 300 participants attended the event, including responsible officials from the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, the International Department of the CPC Central Committee, the Ministry of Education, and Beijing Municipality, as well as foreign diplomats in China and representatives of Chinese universities.
Founded in 1955 at the initiative of Premier Zhou Enlai, CFAU is the only university directly affiliated with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. As a national "Double First-Class" university and an important base for diplomatic talent training, CFAU has cultivated more than 600 diplomatic envoys of the People's Republic of China and is known as the "cradle of Chinese diplomats".
