On September 19, 2025, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister Wang Yi held talks with Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita in Beijing.
Wang Yi noted that Morocco was one of the first Arab and African countries to establish diplomatic relations with the People's Republic of China. Under the strategic guidance of the leaders of the two countries, China-Morocco relations have maintained high-level development, with remarkable achievements in cooperation across various fields, adding more substance to the strategic partnership. Next year will mark the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the strategic partnership between China and Morocco. China is willing to work with Morocco to uphold the original aspiration of establishing diplomatic relations, maintain high-level exchanges, plan for cooperation in various fields, and jointly open up a brighter future for China-Morocco and China-Arab relations.
Wang Yi said that this year marks the 80th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations. In the face of the increasingly prominent governance deficit today, President Xi Jinping proposed the Global Governance Initiative in response to the demand of the United Nations and the aspirations of the Global South countries, contributing China's solution to the reform and improvement of global governance, which has been widely welcomed and supported by the international community. China is ready to work with the international community, including Morocco, to promote the development of the international order in a more just and reasonable direction.
Nasser Bourita asked Foreign Minister Wang Yi to convey the cordial greetings from King Mohammed VI to President Xi Jinping, saying that Morocco and China enjoy a long-standing and solid traditional friendship. Under the personal guidance of the leaders of the two countries, the two sides have always respected and supported each other, and bilateral relations have continuously made important progress. Developing relations with China is Morocco's unwavering strategic choice. Morocco firmly abides by the one-China principle and fully supports China in safeguarding its national sovereignty and security. Morocco is willing to work with China to deepen Belt and Road cooperation, expand exchanges in various fields such as tourism, education and culture, and continuously advance the strategic partnership between the two countries. The Moroccan side welcomes and supports the Global Governance Initiative proposed by President Xi Jinping. On this important occasion marking the 80th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations, the initiative provides guidance for reforming and improving international governance, sends a strong signal of firmly upholding multilateralism, and is conducive to promoting the establishment of a more just and equitable international governance system that will benefit the countries in the Global South, including Morocco.
The two sides also had an in-depth exchange of views on the situation in the Middle East and other issues.
After the talks, the two sides signed a memorandum of understanding on establishing a strategic dialogue mechanism between the foreign ministries of the two countries.
