On October 7, 2025, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister Wang Yi had a phone call with Foreign Minister of the Republic of Korea (ROK) Cho Hyun at the latter's request.

Wang Yi stated that China and the ROK are important neighbors and close cooperation partners. China always attaches great importance to its relations with the ROK, and is willing to work with the ROK to enhance mutual trust, overcome disruptions, deepen cooperation, help each other succeed, and jointly contribute to regional peace, stability, development and prosperity.

Noting that China and the ROK will host the APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting this year and next year respectively, Wang Yi expressed the hope that the two sides will support each other to further build consensus among all parties, strengthen solidarity and cooperation, safeguard the international trading system, uphold the concept of multilateralism, advance the process of building a Free Trade Area of the Asia-Pacific, and make positive efforts toward building an Asia-Pacific community.

Cho Hyun said that the ROK attaches great importance to and will spare no effort in developing relations with China. The ROK looks forward to taking the opportunity of hosting the APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting to promote high-level exchanges between the two countries and deepen exchanges and cooperation.
