Wang Yi: Welcome More Swiss Friends to Become the Bosshards of the New Era
Updated: October 11, 2025 21:03

On October 10, 2025 local time, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister Wang Yi attended a reception hosted by Swiss Federal Councillor and Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis in Bellinzona, and had friendly exchanges with officials from the cantons and municipalities.

Wang Yi said that in the 1930s, Swiss journalist Walter Bosshard traveled great distances to China, becoming the first European journalist to visit Yan'an and interview Chairman Mao Zedong. At that time, many foreign reports about the Communist Party of China were inaccurate and distorted. Based on his firsthand experience in Yan'an, Walter Bosshard observed that China's hope lay in Yan'an, as the Communist Party of China combined discipline with ideals.

Wang Yi stated that China is a country with a long history, and it is constantly developing. If there is any country in the world that has undergone the greatest changes and fastest growth, it must be China. China has lifted 800 million people out of poverty, formed a middle-income group of nearly 500 million, and is leading 1.4 billion Chinese people on the path toward modernization, which presents immense opportunities for cooperation. China welcomes more Swiss friends to become the Bosshards of the new era and visit China to embrace cooperation, the future, and opportunities.
