On November 4, 2025, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with newly-appointed Permanent Representative of the African Union (AU) to China Alhaji Mohamed Sarjoh Bah and accepted his credentials in Beijing.

Wang Yi welcomed Alhaji Mohamed Sarjoh Bah's assumption of the new post in China. He said that the AU is a banner for Africa's strength through unity and has made positive progress in promoting Africa's overall development and integration process. Strengthening solidarity and cooperation with Africa remains a key priority of China's foreign policy. China will always stand on the side of developing countries, on the side of African countries, and on the right side of history. China-Africa cooperation is in nature South-South cooperation, which represents mutual support and assistance between developing countries. The 21st century should be a time for accelerated development and rejuvenation of both China and Africa. Wang Yi expressed appreciation for Africa's support for the series of global initiatives put forth by President Xi Jinping. China is ready to work with the African side to deliver on the outcomes of the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) and implement the zero-tariff treatment for 100 percent of tariff lines for African countries that have established diplomatic relations with China. The two sides will jointly advance modernization endeavors, build an all-weather China-Africa community with a shared future for the new era, and work together to protect the planet on which humanity lives. Wang Yi expressed the hope that the AU Representative Office in Beijing will continue to play an active role in promoting overall cooperation between China and Africa.

Alhaji Mohamed Sarjoh Bah expressed that it is a great honor to serve as the AU Permanent Representative to China. The friendship between Africa and China has a long history, and the relations between both sides are characterized by unity, friendship and strength, setting a fine example for the world. The AU recognizes and supports the vision of building a community with a shared future for humanity as well as the Global Governance Initiative and other global initiatives proposed by President Xi Jinping. The AU is willing to work with the Chinese side to implement the outcomes of the FOCAC Beijing Summit, deliver more fruitful results in bilateral cooperation, and bring benefits to the African people. The AU Representative Office in Beijing will make every effort to contribute to the development of Africa-China relations.
