On December 28, 2025, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand Sihasak Phuangketkeow in Yuxi, Yunnan Province.

Wang Yi requested Sihasak Phuangketkeow to convey President Xi Jinping's sincere greetings and New Year wishes to King Maha Vajiralongkorn Phra Vajiraklaochaoyuhua, saying that this year marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Thailand. King Maha Vajiralongkorn Phra Vajiraklaochaoyuhua successfully paid his first historic state visit to China, during which he and President Xi Jinping reached important common understandings on advancing the building of a China-Thailand community with a shared future, outlining a blueprint for the development of bilateral relations.

Wang Yi stated that mutual trust and mutual support are important features of China-Thailand relations. The recent reaffirmation by the Thai side of its firm commitment to the one-China principle and opposition to "Taiwan independence" demonstrates its strong support for China in safeguarding national sovereignty and territorial integrity, which China appreciates. China is ready to work with Thailand to implement the important common understandings reached by the two heads of state and jointly open up the next golden 50 years of China-Thailand friendship, making the notion that "China and Thailand are as close as one family" even more deeply rooted in the hearts of the people.

Wang Yi stated that China is following closely the tensions on the Thailand-Cambodia border and is deeply saddened by the civilian casualties and the displacement of people caused by the conflict. Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeow has previously stated that Thailand is a peace-loving country and does not wish to be at odds with its neighbors, which China values and appreciates. As a friendly neighbor, China least wants to see Thailand and Cambodia engage in armed conflict, and most hopes to see the restoration of friendly relations between the two countries. Thanks to the efforts of all parties, the militaries of Thailand and Cambodia have reached a ceasefire agreement, taking the first step toward peace, and China is pleased to see this progress. Once the conflict subsides, diplomacy should take center stage. Rebuilding peace is the desire of the people and the expectation of all parties. China promotes peace talks without imposing its will or crossing the line. The efforts aim to provide a platform for constructive dialogue, enabling the parties involved to communicate in depth and resolve differences through dialogue. China believes that as long as Thailand and Cambodia communicate on an equal footing and move forward together, there will be no insurmountable obstacles. China will continue to work toward rebuilding peace between Thailand and Cambodia, and support ASEAN in playing its due role. China is willing to assist the ASEAN observer team in monitoring the ceasefire and provide humanitarian aid to the people in need from both Thailand and Cambodia.

Sihasak Phuangketkeow asked Wang Yi to convey King Vajiralongkorn's sincere greetings to President Xi Jinping, stating that Thailand and China share a time-honored history of exchanges. In recent years, the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between the two countries has grown increasingly close, and mutually beneficial and win-win cooperation across various fields has made in-depth headway, making significant contributions to safeguarding regional peace and stability. Thailand will continue to firmly adhere to the one-China policy.

Sihasak Phuangketkeow highly appreciated China's active efforts in mediating the Thailand-Cambodia conflict through the Asian way. He stated that the recently signed ceasefire agreement between Thailand and Cambodia marks a new beginning. Resorting to the use of force between neighboring countries is not Thailand's choice. Thailand is committed to achieving a sustainable ceasefire and seeking true peace. Thailand is willing to look forward and move ahead, enhance communication with Cambodia through bilateral channels, and with a sincere attitude, gradually resume exchanges, rebuild mutual trust, repair bilateral relations, and safeguard peace and stability along the border between the two countries and in the region.
