Noting Prime Minister Mark Carney's visit to China, the first by a Canadian Prime Minister in eight years, Wang Yi said that the trip signals a turning point in and holds symbolic significance for bilateral relations. The leaders of the two countries will hold meetings and talks, which are expected to open up new prospects for bilateral relations. The world is undergoing unprecedented, profound and complex changes, and the impact of China-Canada relations extends beyond the bilateral scope. China is ready to strengthen communication, enhance mutual trust, eliminate interference, and deepen cooperation with Canada, ensuring that bilateral relations move forward on a steady and sound track in solid strides under the new circumstances.
Wang Yi said that China and Canada have different social systems, which stem from different historical and cultural backgrounds and are based on the choices of their peoples. Both sides should view each other with a rational and amicable attitude and an inclusive mindset, handle issues in a manner of mutual respect, focus on the cooperation agenda, and send positive messages, so as to provide optimistic expectations for and inject more confidence into the development of bilateral relations, and jointly build a new type of strategic partnership between China and Canada.
Anita Anand said that the new Canadian government attaches great importance to its relations with China. Since last year, Canada-China relations have reached a turning point towards improvement and development, maintaining a positive and strong momentum.
