On February 5, 2026, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs held the New Year Reception 2026. Nearly 500 people, including diplomatic envoys from various countries to China, representatives of international organizations in China and their spouses, as well as representatives from various Chinese government departments, attended the event.

In his remarks, Member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and Foreign Minister Wang Yi stated that the year 2025 marked the 80th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations. Over the past year, despite the headwinds and turbulence in the international environment, China has stayed committed to the right path in its diplomacy. Under the leadership of President Xi Jinping, China solemnly commemorated the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War and made a strong call for peace and justice. China stood firmly against unilateralism and protectionism and resolutely defended the multilateral trading system. China worked actively to deescalate hotspot issues and explore solutions that address both the symptoms and root causes. In particular, the Global Governance Initiative proposed by President Xi Jinping has pointed the way forward for a world amidst the critical evolution of the global order. Looking back over the past year, no matter how the world has changed, China's position of safeguarding international fairness and justice has remained steadfast. Its commitment to building a community with a shared future for humanity has stayed unwavering. In a fluid and turbulent world, it has continued to be a source of much-needed certainty and demonstrated valuable constructiveness. All this has won increasing understanding and recognition from the international community.

Wang Yi said that all diplomatic envoys have visited so many places in China, from the North to the South. They have traced with their own footsteps the epic journey of Chinese modernization, advanced exchanges and cooperation with dedication and commitment, and written many new, splendid stories. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China will, as always, support them in their work to forge closer bonds and make them feel warm and comfortable in China, their second home.

Wang Yi noted that entering the new year, the world becomes even more volatile and unstable, and peace and development are under serious challenge. History has repeatedly proven that division and confrontation lead nowhere, and global solidarity is the only right choice. China stands ready to work with all forces for progress across the globe, bearing in mind the future of humanity and the well-being of the people, to jointly uphold peace and the rule of law, promote openness and development, tackle crises and challenges, and deepen understanding and friendship, making new contributions to the building of an even better world.

Dean of the Foreign Diplomatic Corps in China and Ambassador of Cameroon Martin Mpana extended wishes to the Chinese people for a happy Chinese New Year on behalf of the diplomatic corps. Martin Mpana stated that China's diplomacy secured remarkable achievements in 2025. With a global vision and great foresight, President Xi Jinping has proposed the Global Governance Initiative that carries great significance for world peace and development. By steadfastly promoting a multipolar world and international fairness and justice, advocating for universally beneficial and inclusive economic globalization, mediating international hotspot issues, and supporting the cause of the Global South, China has demonstrated its important standing on the international stage. Countries around the world are willing to work with China in the spirit of mutual respect and trust to enhance understanding, deepen friendship, strive for greater achievements in their respective cooperation with China, jointly defend international justice, and promote common prosperity.
