
On April 9, 2026 local time, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister Wang Yi held talks with Foreign Minister of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) Choe Son Hui at the Kumsusan Guesthouse in Pyongyang.
Wang Yi stated that in early September of last year, General Secretary Xi Jinping and General Secretary Kim Jong Un held a historic meeting in Beijing and reached important common understandings on global, strategic, and directional issues concerning bilateral relations, providing significant strategic guidance for the future development of China-DPRK relations. This meeting has ushered the bilateral ties into a new stage and opened a new chapter in friendly exchanges, holding profound and far-reaching significance. China is ready to work with the DPRK side to take the important consensus of the top leaders of the two parties and the two countries as the fundamental guide to enhance strategic communication, maintain close exchanges and cooperation, and continuously consolidate the positive momentum of bilateral relations to deliver more benefits to the two peoples and jointly promote regional peace and development.

Wang Yi said that over the past year, exchanges between China and the DPRK have been full of highlights, powerfully demonstrating that the traditional friendship forged in blood between the two sides will never fade and is unbreakable. This year marks the 65th anniversary of the signing of the China-DPRK Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation and Mutual Assistance. Over the past 65 years, regardless of changes in the international and regional situation, the two countries, as good neighbors, friends and comrades, have always upheld mutual trust and mutual support, and have made unremitting efforts to maintain regional and global peace and stability, and advance their respective development. China is willing to host commemorative activities marking the 65th anniversary of the signing of the treaty with the DPRK side, strengthen high-level exchanges, enhance dialogue and practical cooperation at all levels and in various fields, deepen cultural and people-to-people exchanges, promote mutual understanding, and contribute to the economic and social development of both countries.
Choe Son Hui stated that the friendship between the DPRK and China is based on a shared socialist system and a tradition of friendship, and that bilateral relations are profound, solid, and sustainable. Advancing DPRK-China friendship and cooperation in line with the trend of the times and the will of both peoples is the unshakable stance of both the Party and Government of Korea. The historic and successful meeting between the top leaders of the two parties and the two countries last September has powerfully enhanced friendship and mutual trust, pointing out the direction and injecting strong impetus into the development of DPRK-China relations. The DPRK side fully supports the one-China principle, firmly opposes any interference in China’s internal affairs, and resolutely supports China’s position on safeguarding its sovereignty and territorial integrity on core interests and major concerns related to Taiwan, Xizang and Xinjiang. The DPRK fully recognizes the concept of a community with a shared future for humanity and the four global initiatives proposed by General Secretary Xi Jinping, and highly appreciates China’s impartial stance and important role in international and regional issues. The DPRK side is ready to work with China to implement the important consensus reached by the top leaders of the two parties and the two countries, hold commemorative activities for the 65th anniversary of the signing of the DPRK-China Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation and Mutual Assistance, promote exchanges and pragmatic cooperation across various fields, maintain coordination among diplomatic departments, and enhance multilateral communication and cooperation to make continuous efforts to advance DPRK-China relations to a new level and open up new prospects.
