On May 26, 2026 local time, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Bahraini Foreign Minister Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani in New York while chairing the UN Security Council High-Level Meeting.

Wang Yi stated that Bahrain, as a member of the Security Council and the rotating presidency of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), confirmed its attendance at this high-level meeting at the earliest opportunity. This demonstrates the importance it attaches to China-Bahrain relations and its support for China’s tenure as the rotating Presidency of the UN Security Council. China appreciates this and stands ready to work with Bahrain to promote the steady and sound development of bilateral relations, as well as China-Arab and China-GCC relations.

Wang Yi said that as a good friend and partner of Bahrain and other Gulf countries, China sincerely hopes for an early restoration of peace and tranquility in the Middle East and Gulf region. President Xi Jinping has solemnly made four propositions on safeguarding and promoting peace and stability in the Middle East, which embodies a responsible attitude and an impartial position. This conflict should never have happened, let alone continued. The top priority is to promote a comprehensive and lasting ceasefire. The international community should intensify efforts to promote peace, work together to de-escalate the situation, and in particular, oppose actions that stoke tensions and exacerbate conflicts. China supports Pakistan and other countries in continuing to actively mediate, and stands ready to maintain close coordination with Bahrain and other Security Council members to ensure the Council’s work advances in the right direction of political settlement, and jointly strive for long-term peace and stability in the Middle East.

Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani congratulated China on successfully convening this high-level meeting as the rotating Presidency of the Security Council. He noted that in the current international landscape, China’s leadership and wisdom are exactly what the world needs. Since the turbulence in the Middle East, China has upheld fairness and justice, maintained close communication with Gulf countries, and made active efforts to achieve a ceasefire and end the conflict. Bahrain appreciates these efforts and looks forward to China playing an even greater role. Bahrain highly values its relations with China and stands ready to further strengthen cooperation across all fields, and continuously advance Bahrain-China and GCC-China relations to new heights.
